Implications for Education
Between the 1800s and the early 1900s many students attended one-room schools. Essentially children would attend class with their siblings all working at different levels. Kindergartens would be in the same room with the Grade 12s. This meant a diverse learning experience. Also, schools were community based. Children traveled within walking distance or maybe horse and buggy to attend school.
Today is quite a different situation. We often find students traveling greater distances to attend school. Grade and division divide classes and often students that live in remote areas are bussed to school. Depending on the size of the community there can be a number of schools located in one area connected by school boards.
Look at the two different maps. How do you think telecommunication has impacted the change in the size of school boards?
